Bluegrass rolls are great, but there are many other ways to bring the banjo into your music. Frailing is an excellent, and accessible way to add rhythm and interest to a group's or an individual's sound. It is especially supportive in folk and western music. The Banjo played melodically creates beautiful music of it's own. Walt will demonstrate various banjo styles as well as discussing its historical contributions to American music.

"Our intention is to be inclusive and to honor people who have given a large part of themselves to making music in San Diego, regardless of how many records they may or may not have sold," said SD Music Hall of Fame founder Jefferson Jay. "There is a incredible history of great music in San Diego, and we are focused on sharing this history and ultimately, raising awareness and opportunities for music and musicians in this place we all love calling home."

Walt Richards is an icon in San Diego,
whose group,
Trails and Rails, brings new life to songs from the last 200 years.
Walt is celebrating over 50 years of playing and teaching music in the San Diego area. As a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he has worked with many diverse musical groups, including doing studio work and live theater (The Old Globe and Starlight theaters in San Diego), besides being a solo and group performer. Earlier work for television earned an Emmy for Walt and partner Vickie Cottle. His most recent television credits include train songs sung for a documentary originally commissioned by Disney.
