The annual Train Song Festival is held at Old Poway Park in Poway, California. The free event, co-sponsored by the City of Poway and San Diego Folk Heritage, features live musical entertainment with songs inspired by the railroads. This one-of-a-kind event brings to life the history of American rails, songs that were inspired by the freedom to travel, the tragedies and triumphs of the railroad men, and the adventure of the hobos and other traveling folk, whose lives have been entwined with the trains.
During the day, in addition to the great train-related music, The Poway Midland
Railroad gives train rides aboard its 1907 Baldwin Steam Engine; The Poway Station
Model Railroad Club displays model trains in Templars Hall; Old Poway Park's western
gun-fighting teams re-enact train robberies; children can have their faces painted,
make train crafts, hear stories and see toy train displays and The Heritage Museum
provides an historical train display.

Are we lucky to live here ? Absolutely ! The first area inhabitants were fortunate, too. Then, in the late 1700s, life for the Kumeyaay changed dramatically. Amazing things have happened since then. Missions, Ranchos, Gold, Settlers, Railroads ! Cars and highways eventually brought even more people, who wanted to stay in one of the world's best places. People brought music with them--there's always music ! Others wrote songs about their own experiences or about the earlier days they had heard about. Join Trails & Rails, the award-winning acoustic harmony group (spiced up with some amazing banjo-bass instrumentals) for a musical trip through decades of change in San Diego County.

Originally this festival was a banjo fiddle competition, and more recently known as the Julian Bluegrass Festival. The Julian Music Festival is an end of summer celebration of over 40 years of music in Julian. Expanding its horizons, you will not only find Bluegrass, but an Americana mix of Western ballads and Classic Folk Music.
Along with Music there will be a variety of vendors. In case you're hungry the Julian Lion's Club has that covered with their food concession. Their menu of Bratwurst, BBQ Chicken, Nachos, and drinks is bound to satisfy anyone.
When we wrote in June, we stated that the main stage at Frank Lane Field had been relocated. Now there has been an even bigger change ! The entire festival has been moved to the Menghini Winery, just up the road from Frank Lane Park at 1150 Julian Orchards Drive.
We think you'll love it. Lots of grass. Close/Free Parking. A flat place for your chair. The Lion's Club will still be there, fixing their delicious food to sell.
