On that day every year more than a million hikers, bikers, equestrians, and others take part in thousands of events nationwide in celebration of America's trails. These events include new trail dedications, workshops, educational exhibits, equestrian and mountain bike rides, rollerblading, trail maintenance, and hikes on America's favorite trails.

San Diego County's first Mexican land grant includes an 1823 adobe ranch house constructed by the Commandante of the San Diego Presidio. In 1846, Rancho los Penasquitos was the first place of rest for General Stephen Watts Kearny and his Army of the West after the Battle of San Pasqual. Enlarged in 1862 as the gracious home of a celebrated Yankee river boat captain and his wife, the niece of California's last Mexican governor, Pio Pico, the building and site comprise a National Historic and Archaeological District. The beautiful canyon locale within a 3700-acre open space preserve offers hiking, biking and equestrian trails.

Did you know there was a big barn in Old Town? It was news to me until we were invited to play for David Friend's Western Photography Show at 3886 Ampudia Street on Saturday, June 25th, 2011. The show runs between 5:00 - 8:00 PM.
Visit the website: www.davidfriend.com for a peek at his great photographic art and for a map to the barn. On site parking, and refreshments, too! Having seen the outside, and web pictures of the surprising inside of the barn and his beautiful western images, we are really looking forward to being there to add music to the afternoon.

Darlington House is owned and operated by Social Service League of La Jolla, a non-profit public benefit corporation. The mission of the many generous volunteers is to provide housing and meal support to seniors who have lived and worked in the San Diego area. The organization began assisting seniors during the Great Depression and incorporated in 1947.
Darlington House was purchased by Social Service League of La Jolla in 1968 from the estate of Mrs. Sybil Darlington. In addition to the beautiful home, the sale provided property to further expand The League House next door.
League House is now available to 52 seniors, where they are provided with secure and attractive apartment living. Some utilities are included and their evening meal is served in a gracious dining room. A spacious lounge is available for their enjoyment, as are attractive patios. The volunteers of Social Service League of La Jolla give countless hours of their time and talents to preserve and maintain both Darlington House and League House.
To enhance this support, our volunteers also hold fundraisers throughout the year. All funds raised through Darlington House directly support the efforts at League House.
Who knew there was such variety
in what people were listening to during that decade!
